LFV now has remote air traffic control for Sundsvall Timrå Airport
At the end of December, Sundsvall Timrå Airport in northern Sweden became the country’s second airport to have remote air traffic control. At 07.00 on 20 December, the tower was closed down and the air traffic control service was transferred to LFV’s control centre. [2018-01-15]
LFV and Swedavia establish remote air traffic service from a remote position at four airports
LFV, Air Navigation Services of Sweden, and the airport company Swedavia, have signed an agreement that establishes air traffic service (ATS) from a remote position at four Swedavia airports. Concerned airports are Kiruna Airport, Umeå Airport, Åre Östersund Airport and Malmö Airport.
"With the agreement between LFV and Swedavia, a major step towards digitalisation and the streamlining of air navigation services in Sweden is taken. Swedavia is LFV's largest airport customer and supporting the development of Swedavia's capabilities and business has the highest priority for LFV," remarks LFV's Director General Ann Persson Grivas. North European Free Route Airspace established
Today, on May 25th the North European Free Route Airspace Programme, NEFRA celebrates its successful completion. The Programme launched in 2013 by six North European states pledged establishment of seamless cross border Free Route operations between Danish/Swedish and North European functional airspace blocks (FABs). LFV contributing with smart solutions for more sustainable air traffic
Using data from LFV, FOI (the Swedish Defence Research Agency) has been able to improve calculations of the environmental impact of aviation. At the same time, the project has added to the bank of knowledge that could lead to lower fuel consumption and thus a reduction of the climate impact in the future. [2017-04-06]
LFV is participating in projects to improve coordination between aircraft and drones
LFV and the Swedish Transport Administration are looking into smart solutions for tomorrow's air traffic. In the spring they will be starting a research project on drones to examine how to improve coordination between civil air traffic and drones. [2017-04-06]
LFV managed a record number of aircraft movements in 2016
The air traffic year 2016 held records for flights in Sweden. LFV air traffic controllers handled 726,000 aircraft movements in Swedish airspace. This was an increase of 2% in comparison with 2015. At the same time, LFV reduced their costs and thus charges to airline companies for the third year in a row. [2017-03-28]
LFV and Combitech are developing technology for increased safety at airports

Ann Persson Grivas - new Director General of LFV
Ann Persson Grivas has been appointed as Director General of LFV by the Swedish Government. She comes from a position as Assistant Director General of Försäkringskassan in Sweden. Ms. Ann Persson Grivas will come on board April 1st, 2017. [2017-02-24]
LFV control centre in Sundsvall expanded
Infrastructure Minister Anna Johansson inaugurated the new extension of LFV's Remote Tower Center in Sundsvall last week. The extension provides the capacity to manage air traffic remotely at even more airports. [2017-02-23]
ATM System in Sweden successfully upgraded
The COOPANS partnership is pleased to announce that it has successfully updated its common ATM system by deploying the latest upgrade of the COOPANS software to version B3.2, which is co-funded by the EU from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF).
